1. What thickness is recommended for a concrete shed base?
For most garden or storage sheds, we recommend a minimum thickness of 100mm. If you plan to store heavy equipment or machinery, a thicker base—up to 150mm—may be necessary for added strength and durability.
2. Do I need a concrete base even for a small shed?
Yes, even small sheds benefit from a concrete base. It provides a stable, level foundation that prevents shifting, improves structural integrity, and protects against moisture and pest intrusion from the ground.
3. How do you prepare the site before pouring the shed base?
We start by clearing and levelling the area, then lay a compacted gravel or crushed rock sub-base. This ensures proper drainage and support before installing formwork and pouring the concrete.
4. How long do I need to wait before placing my shed on the concrete base?
You should wait at least 5 to 7 days before placing a shed on a newly poured base. This allows the concrete to cure to a sufficient strength. Full curing takes about 28 days, but most sheds can be installed once the surface is firm and stable.
